At Curiosum Makerspace, (almost) anything is possible! On Wednesday evenings we welcome everyone aged 13 and up to our creative workshop to create using both digital and traditional tools. Bring your own project, join a workshop, or explore your creativity on-site. No prior experience is required.

Reserve Your Spot

Would you like to visit the Makerspace with your own project or idea? We recommend reserving your spot in advance. The booking page will reopen in late August.

Each session has limited availability, and drop-ins are welcome if space allows. If you are unable to attend a reserved session, please cancel your booking so someone else can take your place. You’ll find a cancellation link in your booking confirmation.

Adults: 120 SEK
Students/Seniors: 100 SEK

Multi-Visit Cards
Adults: 600 SEK (6 visits)
Students/Seniors: 500 SEK (6 visits)
Multi-visit cards are personal and valid for one year from the date of purchase.

Note: Starting in 2025, Makerspace entry will no longer be included in annual passes, except for those purchased during 2024.

Workshops

We regularly offer workshops in the Makerspace, where you can try out and create using various techniques and materials. The workshops are led by our skilled staff and are suitable for everyone aget 13 and up, regardless of prior experience. This spring’s workshops will be published here shortly—stay tuned!

About Makerspace

Curiosum Makerspace is a prototyping workshop equipped with both digital and traditional tools. The workshop offers great opportunities to explore new materials or give something worn out new life. Come and brainstorm ideas and inspire and be inspired by staff and other visitors.

The workshop is staffed by personnel with different expertise and backgrounds. Every Wednesday during school terms, the workshop is open for you, your creativity and ideas.

Makerspace on Wednesdays gives an opportunity to brainstorm ideas on the spot and to be inspired by both our staff - as well as other visitors. The staff will help you getting started with digital tools such as laser cutter, 3D printer and digital embroidery machine, and support you while you are here.

No previous knowledge is required. Bring materials with you or buy on site.

Available techniques

The Makerspace is equipped with a range of different tools, digital production and prototyping machines, as well as software and programs. Below follows a list.

NOTE. It is very popular to use our laser cutter, thus we cannot guarantee that everyone will have time to cut. When queuing, we limit time/person to a maximum of 30 minutes at the machine. Cutting is much faster than etching. While waiting for your turn you can prepare your file for laser cutting. Or do it in advance, at home.

We work here

Magnus Lindgren is a research engineer at Curiosum and responsible for the workshop for manufacturing with digital technology.

Catharina Carlsson has a master's degree in graphic design and companion letter as a hat designer, and is responsible for the workshop with mainly a textile and electronic focus.

Visitor Hosts

Mika Sinclair is a visitor host at Curiosum, as well as an Industrial Designer. She recently finalized a Master's in Interaction Design at Umeå School of Design. The training focused on creative creation, digital design, human-machine interface and much more. Through a far-reaching interest in technology, IT and democracy, she has been active in local association and grassroots culture.

Simon Einemo is a musician, graphic artist and sound artist, who, with a background in public education and non-profit association work, has gathered a wide range of knowledge in mixing media, materials and exploratory methods.

Curiosum Makerspace - part of the global Maker movement

Curiosum Makerspace is a place to learn, share, and create and also a part of the global Maker movement.

Manufacturing is being digitized and democratized. Digitally controlled machines are getting cheaper, the open source software to control the machines is getting better and more people are learning to use these technologies. All this means that we can talk about a kind of revolution - where more and more people have knowledge and access to manufacturing machines and thereby have the opportunity to create things themselves.

Two important components that make this possible are meeting places and sharing culture. Meeting places are important for connecting people with the same interests, it can be a physical place such as Curiosum Makerspace or a digital arena on the internet. The Internet makes it possible to connect people all over the globe with odd, unusual or special interests in different forums where you can learn from each other, together.

All these physical and digital places are permeated by the sharing culture that the Maker movement is made up of. We live in an exciting time where you can only dream about what will be invented and created and it can become a reality tomorrow…
