Attend an astronomical event on November 11 at Umeå's new science center Curiosum. Mercury, the planet nearest to the sun, crosses the solar disk as seen from Earth. If the weather is clear, you can see the phenomenon through Curiosum's solar telescope. Passages of Mercury are rare. The last time it happened was 2016 and the next passage occurs in 13 years, in 2032.
Also take the opportunity to meet Astronomical Youth´s Umeå section Theia who will talk about what an Amateur Astronomer is, and how you become one (in Swedish).
Monday, November 11
At 12.30 - approx.13.10 Astronomical youth gives a lecture in Curiosum's café on the Arts campus, Östra Strandgatan 32.
At 13.35-14.30 if the weather is clear you will be able to view the Mercury passage through a solar telescope, placed by the river, at the Arts campus. IMPORTANT! Never look directly at the Sun without a special solar telescope!
